Veronica G. Deraleau

Is a Latin-Asian American soprano, violinist, and dancer, garnering attention as an expressive singing actress, recitalist, and collaborative artist in genres spanning early music, traditional and contemporary opera, chamber music, orchestral, choral, and film. A previous musician in the U.S. Army Reserve, Veronica has performed across the country and abroad at cultural and political events, for diverse audiences including a President and Pope.

New to the Pacific Northwest, Veronica’s 2023-24 includes operatic and concert debuts with Puget Sound Concert Opera (Marzelline in Fidelio), Sacred Heart Bellevue (Fauré Requiem), Sno-King Chorale, Kulshan Chorus, and Cantabile Chamber Choir (The Drop that Contained the Sea by Christopher Tin), and additional appearances with Vashon Opera, Olympia Opera Theatre, Tacoma Arts Walk, and Pacific Lutheran University’s Opera Workshop. Veronica will also be presented in recitals for Women’s History and Mother’s Day, hosted by Lakewold Gardens and the Kingston Village Green Foundation.

As a proponent of new music, Veronica has premiered and recorded original works by composers including Trevor Shaw, Jeremiah Bornfield, Laura Ball, Manuel Ciordia, and Vi Hart. Shaw’s Two German Sonnets was presented in venues across Texas, and Bornfield’s score, written for the award-winning film Diane, was displayed at select showings in New York City as part of the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, later released in theatres nationwide and Video on Demand in March 2019. She was a featured soloist on the Inversion Ensemble’s first studio album entitled Inversion Ensemble I, released in June 2020, on streaming platforms Spotify, Google Play, and Amazon Music. 

A lover of early music, Veronica’s roles include Proserpina (Rossi’s Orfeo) with New York Continuo Collective and the Boston Early Music Fringe Festival, and Isifile (Il Giasone) with the Opera Academy of California. Veronica also presented scenes from Cavalli’s La Calisto with the Queens College Baroque Opera Workshop, and a collection of newly published Cor Donato modern editions of the works of Barbara Strozzi with the New York Continuo Collective. In traditional opera, Veronica has performed Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with OperaOggiNY and Vocal Productions NYC, and Giannetta (L’Elisir d’Amore) and Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) with New York Opera Forum, and Xantippe (Daphnis et Chloé) at the Opera Academy of California. Veronica also sang with the Austin Opera Chorus for several seasons in their productions of CarmenLa Traviata, and Otello.

Veronica has been featured as the soprano soloist in early music, new music, and oratorio with professional choral ensembles Ars Longa, the Inversion Ensemble, Queens College, and Stony Brook University chamber and orchestral ensembles. As a collaborative artist, Veronica has performed alongside lutenist Christopher Baum, presented by the Cantanti Recital Project, Ensemble Musica Humana, and the famed Cornelia Street Café, and pianist Sunhwa Hong in the Shingeru Concert Series and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Veronica also joined the Professional Women Singers Association in several programs including “An October Serenade,” a benefit for the Episcopal Actors Guild hosted by the late Marni Nixon, which featured scenes from Ms. Nixon’s illustrious career.

As a proud first-generation American and U.S. Army veteran, Veronica has had the honor of performing in many military and political events. Veronica was chosen to perform selections from the American Songbook in a tour of Northern Germany, the 239th U.S. Army Birthday Gala, the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, and the New York Democratic Convention. Veronica co-produced a fundraising concert for Veterans called “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary,” with the Professional Women Singers Association, as part of Army Week Association events. Ms. Deraleau currently calls Lacey, Washington her home with her husband, Mike and their dog, Phil.
